Holidaze: How to enjoy the holidays and minimize stress

Holidays are supposed to be joyful, but they can also create many headaches. In this timely session, we will review common sources of holiday stress, and explore ways to minimize the tension and increase the fun for everyone.

Take a break from the noise to find a quiet reflection in the middle of your day with guided meditation. This meditation is suitable for all levels of practice.
Thursday, December 7th – 11 am
Effective Communication Strategies
(Presented by VCU HR and the Alzheimer’s Association)
Learn how to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.

Money Mondays with Bill Topic: Understanding the Basics of Social Security
(Presented by VCU HR and Fidelity)
Social Security may be an important income source for retirement. Learn about key Social Security claiming ages and how your benefit is calculated, so you can better understand the choices.
Tuesday, December 12th – 12 pm
Deep Stretch
(Presented by VCU HR and VCU Recreation & Well-Being)
This is a slower 30-minute practice focused on active stretching of muscles and opening of connective tissue. Release built up tension, prevent injury, increase blood flow to muscles, and increase long-term flexibility. No equipment requirements though a yoga mat is recommended.

Social Security 101: Everything you wanted to know
(Presented by VCU HR and Social Security Administration)
There are so many questions regarding Social Security. When are you eligible to receive retirement benefits? How does early retirement affect your benefits? Do you quality for disability, survivors, and spouse benefits? What is the future of Social Security? When should you file for Medicare? Learn how to use my Social Security online account and other online service. In this session, Jackie Weisgarten from Social Security will answer these and other questions.
